Project Overview
When a family in Moulton came to us looking to open up their ground floor, we worked closely with them to shape the project from the ground up. What followed was a six-week renovation covering everything from structural steelwork and bifold doors to a brand new kitchen and custom-built media wall, delivered to the exceptional standard our clients across Northwich and Cheshire have come to expect.
This project is a strong example of what we do best: managing complex, multi-trade renovations from first fix through to final finish, with a single point of contact throughout.
The Challenge
The clients wanted to completely rethink their ground floor. The existing layout featured multiple walls that broke up the space, limited natural light, and offered no connection between the kitchen and living areas. They also had a wish list that required real skill to execute: bifold doors opening out to the garden, a brand new kitchen with quartz worktops, and a media wall that could discreetly house their dogs’ crates without compromising on style.
Projects of this scale require precise coordination across multiple trades, careful structural planning, and a contractor the clients can trust to manage the whole process. That is exactly what we delivered.
What We Did
Structural Alterations and Steelwork
The project began with four internal wall removals to create the open-plan layout the clients had envisioned. Each opening required custom-made steel beams, designed and installed to carry the load safely while giving the maximum possible span. Brickwork alterations were also carried out to accommodate the new bifold door set and a separate new window, transforming the amount of natural light flowing into the space.
Structural work of this kind demands precision, experience, and the right materials. Our team managed the full process, from design through to installation and building regulation compliance.
Bifold Doors and New Window
Bifold doors are one of the most popular home improvement choices for homeowners across Cheshire, and it is easy to see why. When fitted correctly, they dissolve the boundary between inside and out, making the ground floor feel significantly larger. The brickwork alterations required to create the opening were completed cleanly, leaving a neat, properly finished reveal ready for the door frame installation. A separate new window was installed in the same phase of work, adding further light and ventilation.
New Kitchen with Quartz Worktops
With the structural work complete and the space opened up, we fitted a brand new kitchen designed to complement the open-plan layout. Quartz worktops were chosen by the clients for their durability and clean, contemporary look. The kitchen design was planned collaboratively, ensuring the layout made the best use of the new space and integrated well with the bifold doors and the media wall on the opposite side of the room.
Custom-Built Media Wall with Integrated Dog Crates
This was the feature that really captured the imagination during the project planning stage. The clients wanted a media wall that could house their dogs’ crates in a way that felt intentional and stylish rather than an afterthought. We designed and built a fully bespoke unit that incorporates the crates seamlessly into the overall structure, complete with ventilation and easy access, while maintaining a clean, furniture-quality finish from the front.
As the clients noted in their review, it is “a perfect blend of practicality and style” and a great example of how bespoke joinery can solve real everyday problems in a way that off-the-shelf products simply cannot.
Heating, Electrics and Plastering
A renovation of this scope requires first and second fix works throughout. We managed heating and electrical alterations to suit the new layout, ensuring radiators, sockets, switches, and lighting were all repositioned and updated to serve the remodelled space properly. The entire ground floor was then fully plastered to a smooth finish, ready for decoration.
The Result
Six weeks after work began, the clients had a completely transformed ground floor. The open-plan layout, natural light from the bifold doors and new window, fresh kitchen, and bespoke media wall combined to create a space that looks and feels like a different home.
As the clients put it:
“We are very pleased with the work carried out by Prestige Joinery. From start to finish, the team completed a full knock-through, installed a brand new kitchen, fitted beautiful bifold doors, and created a stunning media wall, all finished to an exceptional standard. They really listened to our ideas and suggestions throughout the process, while also offering helpful guidance and expertise to ensure the best possible outcome. Overall, we couldn’t be happier with the result and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality workmanship and a professional, collaborative approach.”
